so today was the first day of class! at nine we have european studies with dr. jacoby for an hour and a half. after that we have a break for a half an hour and then english 300 with dr. christianson. i thought the classes were gonna be miserable but it seriously wasn't bad! they were really interesting. oh! i forgot breakfast. i just love food here haha but anyways i had some mango passionfruit yogurt and then some nutty british cereal... it was okay. i really liked the yogurt though! and i had some passionfruit juice. it was dang good. anywho. after class we had a little time for lunch. so i went with a group of people to go get indian food! we were a little crunched for time so we got it to go. it was so dang good! loved it.
we had to be home in time for our little introduction from our centre director alvaro! he and his wife live here and run the BYU centre, they are brazilian. have i met anyone british here? no, not really! hahah but that is okay! anyways they are really cool. alvaro does more handy stuff and logistics, and his wife, thais, is our cook! she is amazing! but anyways. this is kind of irrelevant but i just wanted to say missionary work is legit you guys. over and over we are told how lucky we are to have multiple generations of church members behind us, that we were raised in primary and took part in young men or women. it is crazy that these converts here have such strong (like for real, super strong) testimonies, yet they are jealous of us because we 'know more about the church' then they do. i guess they have a point, but it is just insane. anyways back to my original point... i was saying this because alvaro's family was converted when he was 3 years old. yet another convert who is now a major part of his local branch! missionary work does amazing things!
anyways enough churchy things. i'm going all byu on ya. after our little intro me and a group went to HARRODS. ohmygoodness. i la la la la love that place! if you ever visit london it is a MUST. i am going back soon because i didn't get all the stuff i wanted. sure it is insanely overpriced... but wow. what an experience. the food courts alone are 100% worth it. and you know its gonna be a trip when the 'egyptian elevator' cost 20 million to install. no biggie right? i don't think i would ever get used to walking around in there.
at our tube stop!
chocolate on chocolate on chocolate
can't get much more british than that can it?
if there's ever a international food shortage... you know where i'll be!
glitter covered doughnuts.. YES
larger than life teddy bears in the toy department
special china for the queens jubilee.
these were my favorite!! they have about five different cupcake kits. "it's terribly british"! :)
you know it's posh when you can buy thrones for your... cupcakes?
our cute tube stop! yay bayswater
notes on harrod's: mom- they moved the gelato bar! its not in the main food court anymore and they sorta changed the menu. i was bummed. also that marble mermaid with the catch of the day display was nowhere to be found.
highlight: all the girls i was with really wanted to go to petland to see the animals on display. (buy a yorkie for 1400 pounds! what a deal right?) anyways turns out the animals weren't out today but there was a cute little purse dog getting groomed in the spa and she was just adorable. next to the spa you can also see the little doggie treadmill they have. and in front of the doggie treadmill is a plasma screen tv playing 101 dalmations.
rolls royce just posted up in our neighborhood.. no biggie
yes amanda, i did sit right next to where kate walked down the aisle!
so the symphony was amazing. it was seriously THE best acoustics i have ever ever heard. the way it filled the cathedral and the dome and wow. but here's the thing. the piece they played was 90 minutes long. whyyy would you do that. please tell me. it was lovely and all, but i am still jet lagged. so lets just say i was only present for movements 1, 9, and 10 out of 10. but they were really lovely! they had a soloist that performed along with the choir and he was a legit opera dude. they didn't even have to mic him. thats talent.
collage of the day :)

thanks for the history detail....i love that stuff. Anxious to see the tunnels that is so cool and interesting how they kept that all under wraps for so long. I am laughing at your shake reference...your dad would have caved in an instant. No one makes a true american shake though like an american.
ReplyDeletehave fun at the play tonight.
