after class we had a totally free afternoon! so exciting! there is a sale going on at cath kidston right now, who is my favorite designer in england. she is great!! go look at her website! so me and some girls headed to her store to load up before the sale ends! it was a great success! i just love her. afterwards we made our way to the british library. we have a site assignment due tomorrow that was located there so we figured we should probably get that done. we saw so many cool things!! oh my gosh. it was so cool and i definitely wasn't expecting it. they have sketches from da vinci, transcripts from shakespeare, original compositions from mozart, beethoven, mendelson, lyrics on napkins from the beatles, jane austen's writing desk, codex's from the book of john from 200 ad... crazy crazy stuff! so it was fun to do our little treasure hunt styled site assignment. in another exhibit they have original sketches from jrr tolkien from lord of the rings, first drafts of harry potter from jk rowling.. and more! so i might have to go back!
beatle's lyrics!
codex with the book of john
the best part of the day though was definitely the library's book shop! eeep! i loved it! they had original editions of peter pan, winnie the pooh, alice in wonderland and more! but of course i am drawn to the Disney stories so i got all of those for my hope chest. yes i am starting to collect for that. don't judge. but i was soooo stoked to find those :) yippee! after that it was time to get back on the tube for dinner!
i forgot to mention the tube stop closest to the library is actually king's cross! like harry potter king's cross! sooo we had to stop at platform 9 and 3/4 to snap some pictures of course! hahah we were seriously there for a whole half an hour i think people thought we were crazy. oh well! it was fun!
back at the center we had these funny quiches for dinner, along with potatoes, corn on the cob and salad. then we had this trippy gelato ice cream thing. (don't worry mom i didn't have most of the things i just listed). then i got a snapchat from my mom! she had gotten the package i sent last week from liberty! so for the first time since i have been here i skyped with my mom, sister and mimi! it was grand.
after dinner we went to 'the cinema'.. the movies! me and chelsea found this theatre right down the street across from the tube stop thats only 3.50 pounds for students on monday! that's cheaper than we would see a movie back in the states and usually movies are super expensive here!!! so we went and saw spiderman! we were so stoked! a pretty good sized group came with us and we had a great time :) turns out the theatre we went to, the coronet, was actually the first movie theatre in london! cool right? the theatre was really beautiful although you could tell it was old. it was like a theatre where you'd see play with curtain and really pretty red and gold detailing and woodwork and balconies and stalls and stuff. it was fun! all the british people thought we were idiots cause we were freaking out and taking pictures and stuff. i was so happy because i felt like i was back in america! with popcorn and all! one thing that is different is that they don't offer butter here, some people were devestated. hahaha. also it didn't feel so american after we seriously sat through 30 minutes of commercials!! they said the movie started at 845 and we didn't even previews until 915! oh my goodness it was kind of torture! but we lived. in the end spiderman was super fun. the only thing that would've made it better is if they tied it in to the avengers :) hehe.
freakin stoked to have popcorn!
sorry for the crappy pictures! iphones don't do so good in the dark. anyways! my mom has been telling me to post my address so i'm gonna do that now! if ya want to send me something here ya go:

Miss Ali - What a grand adventure!! So fun to read you are taking it all in!
ReplyDeleteBTW - I had a full children's library long before I had kids or even thought about marriage or kids, so go for it! Children's books are still my most favorite item to purchase.
Have fun!!
